Yummy little coffee shop in the heart of downtown Muscatine. They have full coffee bar menu and a few homemade muffins available. We had lattes and americanos. I love that they have a large variety of syrups (for true coffee lovers, always order half sweet!) The black pearl is most black with pops of gold. They have a large wall sized chalk board when you walk in with an area to leave notes. Love that idea! The kids had fun leaving notes and pictures while we waited for our coffee. The shop has a couch and two chairs to use while you wait. It's attached to a book shop with a walkway between the two. More tables and chairs available in the next room. Baristas were nice and made a mean cup of Jo. We tried a few coffee shops in the area, this was the best.

I stopped in as I was passing through muscatine, IA and was told the cubanito was good. I like drip coffee with a little cream but that was not an option at this location. I had the Cubanito and it hit the spot not to sweet. I also heard the a story related to the black pearl name. I had though it would be related to pirates. But is is a great story about a daughter finding a black pearl on a beach around the time the cafe was starting.

I am not a coffee drinker but they by far have the best energy drink with some amazing muffins. I definitely love going there!

When traveling through Iowa, I took an introductory macramé class here. What a special day! This space is gorgeous and just made me happy being there. Instructor (Lauren) taught a group of us to tie various knots and make a plant hanger. Who knew I could get all creative?! The class was fun, as was the process of learning with a bunch of sweet people. Highly recommend doing this! Once you grasp the mechanics of it, you can take this and go home and make gifts for others.

For my first time service and coffee were perfect. Being a "coffee nerd" I was excited with the option of a French press or pour over. I will definitely return!
